It was probably too much to ask for more perfect records after Jesus of Cool and Labor of Lust, and indeed, they were followed by Nick the Knife and The Abominable Showman, two distinctly weaker efforts.

This LP turned things around a bit with better songs and support from Paul Carrack, Martin Belmont, and Bobby Irwin...and a step back from pop towards Brinsley Schwarz pub rock.
