I’m excited to have this quilt top done, but, boy, am I going to miss having these bright fun fabrics around the sewing room! The top ended up an oversized lap at 68.5 x 80” so I’ll need to find a rainbow wideback to finish it. When it’s quilted, I hope to donate it to a local LGBTQ+ organization for a fundraiser 🤞🏻

Originally, I wasn’t going to include antennae because the trilobite fossil I had as a child didn’t have them and that’s what this quilt is based on. But then I saw someone here on Mastodon mention all trilobites actually had antennae, just some didn’t fossilize. So I course corrected mid-project — thanks for the save paleo-Mastodon!

After all the tiny fish blocks in my last quilt, making this giant trilobite has been a relief to piece. It’s nice to see something come together a bit quicker for a change ✂️ 🪡 🌈
