This is a Texas powdered skipper (Systasea pulverulenta). It's a skipper, not the most stunning butterfly, but it is my 590th identified insect species. Always nice to find a lifer Lepidoptera, and even though it's still hot out it's nice to see some signs of fall coming.

A group of Mangrove Jewel Bugs (Calliphara nobilis) spotted on a leaf at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore, on 3 Sept 2023. When I attempted to take shots of another gathering, half of them flew away, so I left that group alone.

This fluffy furry ball looks ready to become spider wasp food. Also looks like an octopus, its limbs hanging limp under its globular abdomen, the thorax and head somehow hidden away. Despite, it’s all an appearance: notice a pair of limbs keeping a tab on silk strands, awaiting the signal that indicates prey—in other words, alert.
