I absolutely "hate" LED lights for indoor lighting because they are too "f*cking" bright & I'm glad to learn they are now selling dimmable versions.

With only 1 exception, I'm still using ONLY incandescent lights in my house. I have a supply of incandescent bulbs going back almost 40 years which proves that my use of them is mimimal & belies the claim that LED lights will last longer.

I was having trouble w/the florescent ceiling light in my kitchen and the electrican switched it to LED (because it was easier & cheaper than keeping it incandescent, but I paid him put in a dimmer switch so I could control the brightness.

Use to be able to go out of state to buy incandescent bulbs but unfortunately (for me and others like me) that will no longer be the case because the ban against incandescents when US wide on 8/1/2023. 😦

Not-so-fun fact about being #Neurodivergent... Having sensory issues with lighting, and having low-wattage #incandescent light bulbs be banned, while #BigOilAndGas make obscene profits and do nothing to plug up #MethaneLeaks! (In fact, they want to dig up more holes -- in the #DeepOcean!).

I bought an analogue panel meter recently that reads up to 60V DC full scale deflection. These are super handy for monitoring the supply rails in my #strowger #telephoneExchanges

What I love about this one is the tiny wee screw base lamps it uses for the scale illumination!

Oh, this must be one of the *early* generations, when the illumination came from a teeny-tiny #incandescent bulb 💡 instead of an #LED.

IIRC, they worked OK(ish) when the battery was still pretty fresh, but as the battery voltage diminished with normal use, the luminosity dropped off precipitously.🔋

But when those LED-illuminated models finally came along... Wowzers! 🤩 If you were looking straight at the watch face when you pressed the illumination button in the middle of the night, you'd temporarily blind yourself. 😵‍💫 Instead, you had to press the button while looking away, then gradually bring the watch into your field of view, so your eyes would have time to adjust. 🫣

Those were the #GoodOldDays, eh?

I'm really trying, as #incandescent and #CFL bulbs burn out to replace them with #LEDs, for the sake of power and not having to replace them all the time.

But, Holy Tesla, Batman, the multi-axial jumble of lumens, temperature, wattage, wattage rough replacement, dimmability, and socket type makes everything feel like a crap shoot. And I expect that a lot of less tech-savvy consumers are even more confused, esp. when you get beyond simple lamp bulbs.

In my experience #LED bulbs last WAY shorter than #incandescent. Not sure the wattage to waste ratio and the cost is justified.

Paving the way for something else, something better than the LED bulbs currently being peddled for home and city.
