#Token #revocation and #expiration in #AzureAD is important in terms of responding to #security #incidents affecting Azure AD. How and when do tokens expire or what are the revocation options?

#Access tokens typically have an expiration time of 60 minutes. And there is no way to manually invalidate an access token except by manually deleting the token in the cache on the device.

#Refresh tokens typically have a default expiration of 90 days. However, refresh tokens can be invalidated by an admin from the Azure portal or using PowerShell or the Graph API.

A Primary Refresh Token (#PRT) is invalidated when the Azure AD account is disabled or deleted, the user password is changed or reset, or the device where the PRT was issued is disabled or deleted.

While the typical private sector instinct might be to oppose such rules, properly drafted reporting requirements will ultimately benefit the business community. Governments and cybersecurity providers can use the resulting information to provide tailored assistance, generate better warnings to similarly situated companies, understand the total burden cybercrime is placing on the economy, and determine whether policies are having their intended effects.

Let's talk for a moment about the "unprecedented new worldwide cyber attack." Watching the level of #media coverage (with due respectable exceptions) all that was missing was an alien mothership and it could easily become another Hollywood production.

An example of ignorance and incompetence without prio.... nope.

"Thousands of systems attacked."

These were not random systems.

They were systems installed, operated and configured by people with no contact with reality. No one with common sense and a modicum of expertise (real, not titles in the Linkedin role) would have exposed a system like #ESXi on the Internet without proper protection (#VPN, #firewall etc.). Not to mention that the #vulnerability dates back to February 2021. In one word: reclkess.

"#updates are a nuisance, here business has to run, there is no time to stop".

Now, you people, stop, and watch the burning of that straw brushwood you've built.

Let's take a look at the utter ignorance of the #media, which does nothing to improve itself, which communicates nothing but terror and fear. I'm not talking about the national security agencies (which aside from warning the general public, I don't know what else they can do) but the media: #television #newspapers: is something happening on a global scale? "Global attack on the planet's networks." If nothing else, let's give them credit for imagination in the headlines, as there was nothing of substance.

Even this time we will not get a post-mortem #report, describing what happened, pointing out the mistakes that were made. A report explaining why #critical #patches have not been installed in two years, why minimum protection measures for systems have not been implemented, and why there are no #recovery plans from #backup of those systems.

We keep handling #communication over #cyber #incidents in the worst way, to the tune of alarmism and terror. We leave infrastructures in the hands of people who don't know what they're doing for the sake of "things need to be done quickly."

Happy Monday in this new year of #cybersecurity.
