@tzimmer_history In 2007, my boss, Montgomery County (MD) Councilmember Duchy Trachtenberg, introduced a bill to include gender identity in the county’s human rights ordinance. It passed unanimously over some really ugly lobbying by anti-LGBTQ+ orgs. Along the way, I was privileged to meet and work with many trans women whose stories of courage and persistence in the face of terrible hate will stay with me always.
