Intuit has a great document on #InclusiveLanguage that I hadn't seen before and which includes some terms where I was unaware of their racist roots:

(Thanks to my wife @Ksushis for pointing me to it.)

I had a lovely time talking to Melanie Padgett Powers on her "Association Station" podcast about conscious language and why it's important for associations (and all writers) to consider how their messaging might affect their audience. Check it out wherever you get your podcasts, or you can listen here: http://bit.ly/3JHCfcW

The term "enslave" in particular is one that I haven't yet found discussions about what to standardize replacing it with, and there still seem to be plenty of uses of it in the context of VLAN/VXLAN in #Linix.
(It looks like the #FRR project also hasn't made #InclusiveLanguage updates.)

Has there yet been standardization of terms to replace master/slave in various networking contexts (eg, #VXLAN, #VLAN, link aggregation and bonding, etc), especially in their #Linux implementations? There seems to be a wide mix (eg, link, port, member instead of slave) from some searching, but not a huge amount of consistency. Plenty of things still seem to have not been addressed/renamed. It looks like #IEEE P3400 may be working on this but nothing is public yet? #InclusiveLanguage

"The need to avoid ableist language is thus not about avoiding hurt feelings. Instead, it’s about confronting grave, violent, oppressive, and ongoing stakes."

Dear fellow word nerds: What are your thoughts & preferences re online course material delivery formats? Text only, video with slides and voiceover, podcast-like audio (+ transcripts), ... ? A mix of formats or a consistent approach to every lesson/week? I'm developing a course on inclusive language & trying to work out what investments of time/energy are likely to pay off for students :) #Writing #InclusiveLanguage @edibuddies @writers
