Decided to attend #AoIR2023 after all, and managed to pay the early bird rate. My government work involves protecting national administrative data and survey data from exposure but still allowing for publication of studies. I also work in computer programming while doing this and in general in statistical computing. ACADEMIC/RESEARCH PEOPLE: I need advice and resources around how to make a living / career as an independent researcher without a PhD. What are models or ways you've heard of folks having an actual income but not being established with a PhD?

I have been struggling to complete my PhD (a pandemic and transition right in the middle didn't help), and need to explore career options. Any perspective is wanted!
