I wrote a blog entry about the need for decent #indexes in #archaeology books. https://abookindexer.com/2023/01/ There'll be a revised version soon, because I have had more thoughts on the subject.

What types of #indexes are there, what are the elements of an #index, and how do they interact? How avoid pitfalls of #indexing? These and many other questions for #indexodon get answered (in German) in this new contribution by Jochen Fassbender, freely available here: https://doi.org/10.1515/9783110769043-019

I completed #Day8 of #AdventOfCode2022. Took me 3 hours to solve, and 3 hours more to #Refactor and #CodeGolf it.
Difficulty: Easy to medium. Had to rewrite twice because of those finicky double #indexes and off-by-one #errors.
Until now, this is the #AdventOfCode task that most tested my #patience: each run takes 30 seconds to end! I know that the algorithm is O(n^3), but even so!
In the next 3 replies, the golfed #JavaScript code. 791 chars.

It’s that #INDEX book again. (This is getting silly now.)
After being in TIME magazine’s and the Washington Post’s top books of the year lists, Dennis Duncan’s ‘INDEX, A History of the’ (for which I did the, er, index) is also one of the ‘100 Notable Books of 2022’ in the New York Times. Go Dennis, go #indexes, go #indexers. 🥳

Does your book need an #index?
Is the author the best person to do it?
Well, sometimes, but often not, for reasons of experience, skills, software, training and time.
So here’s an article I wrote for the Society of Authors: ‘Why you need and how to work with a book #indexer: a guide for #authors.’
Hope it helps!
