Without exaggeration, today was one of the most amazing & humbling opportunities I’ve ever had to talk about science & #JWST 😳
We went out to visit to the Telengana Tribal Welfare Upgraded Residential Junior College & School for Girls in Parigi, in the countryside about two hours west of Hyderabad.
The level of kind interest & enthusiasm from everyone, not least all the students, was remarkable 👏
Brilliant – thank you 🙇♂️

A familiar friend makes a brave showing through the light & atmospheric pollution of Hyderabad this evening over the pool at my hotel.
Always cool to see Orion so high in the sky: at 17.4°N, Hyderabad is >2° closer to the equator than Maunakea.

Day 2 of the #IndiaScienceFest in Hyderabad & an excellent talk by ProfIainStewart@twitter.com (him off the telly) about the role of geosciences in the understanding & stewardship of our imperilled Planet Earth.
An interesting point about how to incentivise the oil & gas industry to engage in mass-scale carbon capture storage & simultaneously persuade the public that it’d not just be an excuse to continue extracting hydrocarbons.
Having fun with jet lag in India 🇮🇳
Went to bed at 23:00 last night; woke at 02:00 & 03:00; read for a while & tried to sleep again at 03:30.
Failed, so got up at 04:30 & worked on talk until 06:30. Showered, breakfasted, worked some more, dozed for 30 minutes.
Went to #IndiaScienceFest at 09:00; gave hour long talk, 45 minute AMA, many chats with very kind people, & biryani for lunch.
Flamed out at 15:30 & returned to hotel to sleep. Now lots of construction noise outside.
Ugh 😬
First two events done at the #IndiaScienceFest at the Hyderabad Public School – a full talk on #JWST from conception & development to launch & science, then an “ask me anything” type session on being a scientist. Lovely weather for it 🌞
As ever in India, enthusiastic audiences with great questions, & equal participation from girls & boys 🇮🇳

The rather spectacular Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet, beautifully lit against the colourful crepuscular sky.
This is where I’ll be giving my #JWST talk for the #IndiaScienceFest tomorrow.
Ready for the inaugural ceremony of the #IndiaScienceFest on a beautiful evening – huge setup here at the Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet, with many stages indoors & out, where they’re expecting 10-15,000 folk over the weekend.
My #JWST talk tomorrow morning, with an extended Q&A after, & a panel session on Sunday.
Looking forward to returning to India next month to speak about #JWST at the India Science Festival in Hyderabad, as well as other talks in the city & in New Delhi.
Some great speakers, talks, & events lined up – hope to see some of you there 🇮🇳
