We're taking a look at the low-key 2015 dramedy Grandma and remembering when Lily Tomlin reemerged as a comedy star and Roe V. Wade still stood. Were we ever so young?
The political aims of a movie about a grandmother trying to get her granddaughter an abortion were unmistakably righteous but does that make it good? With an unconvincing central romance between Tomlin and our girl Judy Greer, a ticking clock plot with no real stakes, and numerous thinly sketched characters going through the motions of unfunny comedy, the latest episode of 96 Greers finds the hosts reconsidering a film they previously thought of as pretty good.
They also pair JG with former Tomlin co-stars and do a ranking of Greer's romantic chemistry with her various co-stars. Hint: Tomlin didn't make the cut!

So my short #screenplay for #TheOriginalCopy made it as far as the 2nd Round in the Austin Film Festival competition (what other contests call "quarterfinals.") They actually call you up to inform you, which is quite a nice call to get. First dent this one has made, contest-wise. #happy

Watched another "Outer Limits" this morning, "The Human Factor." Gary Merrill and Sally Kellerman. Madness, a love story, a Freaky Friday brain-switch, and a frozen dead soldier that appears as a ghost. Oh and a nuclear warhead! 87 followers · 942 posts · Server sfba.socialI am over the moon happy to have discovered that I have found the weird sci-fi movie from my childhood that I have thought about on and off for decades now: The Alien Factor. Not only did I find out its name, but you can watch it on YouTube!
The film has it all, bad lighting, shaky cameras, handmade costumes, early Dr Who era special effects, acting of various quality, & early 70s synth soundtrack which I am in love with. The plot is about a small rural community terrorized by aliens that crash land in the hills. I have vivid memories of watching this once as a kid on The Great Money Movie hosted by Eddie Driscoll. If you know who/what that is, you are a. old and b. you grew up in a specific part of the country. It's been so long I sometimes wondered if I'd imagined ever seeing it. I think part of the reason I liked it was because the setting looked like the place I lived in at the time. Anyway, my evening has been made.
