A jurisdictional maze and lack of resources contribute to an estimated 4,200 Indigenous cases remaining unsolved. These gaps have led some Native American police to do the work of finding these people themselves.

A disgusting act of blatant racism exploiting the missing and murdered indigenous women happened in Muscatine on Tuesday. I won't reshare the picture but it depicted a violent act against the indigenous peoples during a family friendly event. @cityofmuscatine should have never let this continue but they did, and all while white people cheered this disgusting act. I went to the city council meeting tonight along with many, to stand up. I listened to the @greatplainsactionsociety share how this action was traumatic to indigenous people. I listened to indigenous people share painful stories of missing and murdered indigenous women and how this deeply affected them. I listened to how people are leaving Muscatine and the state of Iowa because of blatant racism. And after people were done, I listened and did not hear ANY apology from the mayor of Muscatine needs to do better. Iowa needs to do better. This country needs to do better.

70% of the landmass in Australia is semi-arid or arid land. Deserts are often perceived as barren and empty spaces, a landscape hostile to life.
“Rewilding as a concept is imbued with western colonial frontier ideas of wilderness and wildness. While it has suffered the impacts of colonisation and climate change, it remains less altered than other landscapes, and more alive than most imagine.”

Amazonian childcare

A really interesting piece by an anthropologist and feminist whose partner is an indigenous Ecuadoran who went to live with their child in her partner's village. The resulting clash of child-rearing concepts may illustrate the view that it "takes a village to raise" a socially engaged child.

"Following current orthodoxy, Runa childrearing – with its casual breastfeeding, abrupt weaning, no extensive parent-child play, no lengthy adult-child talk – would be described as ‘lacking’ in so many respects. And yet, my Runa friends and family thought my own childcare practices were conspicuously inadequate to raise a child in the context of their community life. Their observations, their puzzlement and their quiet defiance of my own childcare practices remind us that, whenever we talk about childrearing, we are not talking about achieving some objective child development based on irrefutable scientific evidence, but rather about a moral project: a moral project about what kind of people we would like our children to become, what society we would like to live in, and what kind of economy we would like to serve. As my Runa friends and family have subtly but relentlessly demonstrated, there is more than one way to flourish as humans in this world."

The discovery & rescue of 4 Indigenous children, 40 days after the aircraft they were travelling in crashed in the remote , was hailed miracle

At least, not a in the conventional sense of the word

The of these children can be attributed to the profound knowledge of the intricate forest and the adaptive skills passed down through generations by Indigenous people

@zeborah This reminds me of seeing the mortars ground into rock by the indigenous people of California as they ground acorns and other seeds into flour. It must have been hard work.

I saw these at the Idyllwild Nature Centre in the San Jacinto mountains of California. They're called chaw’se by the Miwok people of northern California. I'm not sure what southern Californian people called them.
