"I didn’t want to scold the sky that year, but
Grandma’s words taunted my senses. If there
is a thirst, then you need to pity the flowers

in a loud voice. Ask the frogs why they are
being punished, stomp on the ground and talk
to the dried clay about cracking open the earth . . . ."

--from "All Thirst Quenched" by Lois Red Elk

Thinking about , watching , and reading this morning.

BRILLIANT, AUDACIOUS HORROR novel combines thriller and slasher traditions with a strong evocation of the bitter, implacable harshness of an Idaho winter and the lingering power of Indigenous stories. A MINUS

I've reached the half-way point of my new novel, and the plot, themes and characters are coming together nicely.

Now I need to focus on sprinkling joy in between the tougher scenes and themes. , humour, collective love, and are essential factors of storytelling. Especially when writing back to the colonial archives.

[I'm writing a spec fic-inspired literary novel to honour the Stolen Generations, and highlight the justice that is still needed. Aboriginal children commonly referred to as the Stolen Generations were forcibly removed from their families, to be trained for unpaid domestic servitude and labouring for white families and businesses. A widespread historical injustice and violence; similar to the survivors of Residential Schools on Turtle Island]

Re-promoting two "groups" I started in November.

* Guppe groups are un-moderated
* Anyone can make a group
* Tag them to auto-boost your relevant posts
* Follow them to see posts in your Home feed.

@auslit - Australian Literature. Share book recommendations, talk about literature; share writing tips, or connect with writers

@indigenousauthors - for Indigenous-authored literature only. Share book recommendations, connect with Indigenous writers, or talk about Indigenous-authored literature. And Indigenous writers are welcome to promote their own work.

Non-Indigenous/White people: please respect the purpose of this group, and don't use it to boost non-Indigenous literature or research, or to centre your own writing practice.

Tiffany Joseph has an even more thoughtful discussion about how to conversations around secular holidays...which makes me start to question why I still call them holidays as well ever since I stopped being a member of an organized religion. Gonna have to mull this blog post over as well: tiffanyrevitalist.wordpress.co 2/End

@indigenousauthors Loved NIGHT OF THE LIVING REZ by Morgan Talty - intertwined short stories not usually my thing, but this was a big exception, eloquent, sad, and really funny.

Dear writers & readers:-

I just made a Guppe group called
@indigenousauthors

Search that address, and then follow.

Guppes are non-moderated decentralized fediverse social groups. They don't follow, they just auto-boost.

To boost your relevant posts, add @IndigenousAuthors (use the full address @ indigenousauthors@a.gup.pe or click on it when it appears as a suggestion)

I've created it so Indigenous / Aboriginal / Pasifika / First Nations and other First Peoples can promote their books and themselves. And to network, talk about their writing process, get support from other Indigenous writers, or more.

Respectfully, I ask non-Indigenous people to consider how, why and when they use this @ to boost their own toots.

If you aren't Indigenous, I'd suggest using it to share and promote your favourite Indigenous-authored books.

And not for sharing books about Indigenous peoples, cultures, knowledges, issues, politics etc that have been written by non-Indigenous authors or academics.

Thanks, and enjoy

(PS apologies for lower case I in Indigenous, and lack of - Guppe coding changed how I wrote it. Using Camel Case in your toots should work. And in so-called Australia, we capitalise Indigenous and Aboriginal)
