Stained glass window at Frederiksborg Castle, located in Hillerød, Denmark, and built in the late 1500s and early 1600s in a Dutch Renaissance style. I took this photo while touring the place on 3 February 2010.

Thanks to YouTube, the corporate term “content” now dominates the vocabulary for online media and is expanding into broader societal use. This reductionist term, which equates large, serious projects with your recent post about what you had for breakfast, has many downsides. This video argues that “content creation” is bad news for us all.

The adtech-based corporatization of the Web has empowered an emotionally unintelligent, racist, sexist, ageist (etc.) and hypercapitalist tech industry that is fueling a global mental health crisis while profiting off disinformation and destabilizing democracies.

The “age of criticism” in Western thought began with Immanuel Kant, who made critique something universal and central to humanity. We still live within this paradigm today, but it turns out critique has both positive and negative forms. This article discusses Kant’s notions and the limits and uses of critique altogether.

Language acquisition and learning are considered two different processes, but it’s important to note that they aren’t mutually exclusive and that a good learning process includes elements of both. This article nicely explains how that works.

As many Québécois from my generation I learned English in grade school, where all teachers were nuns. Interestingly, my English teacher, sister Mildred, was American and most of the teaching material was US-made.
I still use American spelling and say "zee" instead of "zed", and "has ben" instead of "has bin" (pro tip: this is a way to distinguish Anglophone Canadians from Americans).
A story like this is very #quebecois, you know.
