You'll recall that in the early #informationage we were told that new tech would enable 'disintermediation' (cutting out middle men) saving us all money by making things more efficient (and 'leaner').... well, its all turned out a little differently.

What we have actually seen is a succession of sectors where #BigTech & its allies have inserted themselves into market relations to extract a rent for 'convenience';

Decades after the declaration of the #informationage & the arrival of the 'weightless world' somehow we still seem to be being held to ransom by #fossilfuels producers (#OPEC) & continue to worry (rightly) about the #energycrisis.

Certainly information & communication technology (ICT) has wrought extensive global social change, but it has failed (despite its champions' hopes) to free us from the effects of #energy markets on the global economy.

Economics remains manly material not virtual

This was an observation that he expected to continue for a while, but in the end despite claims at times that Moore's Law had expired, with some variations in strict timing it has remained pretty valid.

As the perilous #InformationAge pushes us as humans to specialize more and more, we also increasingly stumble into people who don't speak our language or understand much, if any, of what we do. They/we can have what appear to be these glaring gaps in knowledge that make us step back and assess how to communicate at all. Each interaction becomes a failed shibboleth. We are strangers in strange lands.

Seems like this has to figure in to the #loneliness epidemic.

#Government may still keep a percentage of the total fines for general well-being (Instead of 100%)
