“Huh?”
“Blake’s the mean one.”
Not that Jake couldn’t be mean. He was just more subtle about it—Blake would beat you bloody the second he knew you’d wronged him. Jake would wait ten years before destroying you utterly.
Blake also had one blue eye. Most people didn’t notice, not wanting to make eye contact with him. But Tash had never been scared of either of them.

While the pastor’s illusion had been inimical to his task, Kane knew that dreamscapes often drew from reality; after winning the fight, he looked for a hot air balloon or similar aircraft. Sure enough, an airship in the castle hangar enabled his swift departure. He had no idea how to refuel the vehicle, but luck granted the ship enough range for Kane to pick up the scouts and reach the next spot rumored to house a Forbearer god.
