I often think of as being around in the autumn, but some species are around at different times of the year. There was a mass of these , also known as โ€™ , on a decaying tree stump.

Inkcap journal is a great resource of environmental news and features for the UK (the whole of it: unusually good coverage for the smaller nations). It's free to read but the weekly update is by subscription. There's a special reduction for new subscribers this week. Check it out!

Inkcap Journal isnโ€™t on mastodon but following some baby production theyโ€™re doing a relaunch. Well worth a look if you have any interest in nature and conservation in the UK inkcapjournal.co.uk/relaunch/

We went walking around Watersmeet yesterday afternoon. I was thinking to myself that we'd not seen any Glistening Inkcaps for an age.... and there they were.

The beautiful Coprinellus micaceus (Glimmertintling) found on old roots of beech (Fagus sylvatica) in the Palatinate Forest.

Typical are the glimmering glittering scales (velum) on the cap. Like all ink cap species, the fruiting body fades to black spore mass at maturity.
