Internet, do ink tank based #inkjet #printers suffer from the same problems that cartridge based inkjet printers have? I.e they dry out and then waste half a cart cleaning themselves?

I assume the ink isn't DRM protected and I can use 3rd party ink just fine?

I need a new printer, and also want to experiment with dye-sublimation printing, but don't want a printer that won't work half the time.

Get yourself a #Xerox colour laser and if you dislike the yellow microdots, either get a B&W one or print on yellow paper...

We bit the bullet a few years ago and dumped #inkjet printers. Got a HP colour #laserjet. Initial expense high, and come refill time the bill is huge. BUT overall it actually saves money and it Just Works.

Those liquid inkjet things are just evil by comparison. Always a mess and always messing up. The Laserjet prints from an iMac and a Linux machine wirelessly and almost never fails.

We have an inkjet printer (I do not want to talk about that). It went from working fine to working not at all from one minute to the next. Error message was that the printer head is broken. I did not believe that.

We found the same printer online second hand. Took me an hour to go and get it, train and walking. Carried it home in a bag. Perks of living in a bigger city. There's so much second hand stuff.

Contrary to what the seller said, the second printer did not work. But it had another printer head. They are surprisingly easy to remove and replace. We put the second printer head into the old printer, and.. it worked!

Made one working printer from two broken ones! 😆🤩

Total effort around 2 hours and 25 Euros (and we got the ink that's still in the second printer)

Let's get a portable printer for the boat, I thought some years ago. Yes, I know inkjets are a total scam and dry up all the time, but lasers didn't fit in the tiny cupboard.

Went about as bad as expected, spending more ink for cleaning than printing. Last job is to serve as a warning to others and perhaps spare parts for another frustrated #Epson Workforce WF-100 customer.

Even soaking in alcohol didn't revive the printhead this time. A spare head is €180.

The screenshot contains my notes from this morning as I prepared to print out a bunch of tax related things, as I'm finally getting myself ready for this year's number fest. It took 4 nozzle cleanings to get it to play nice again, and by then the already somewhat empty cartridges were really done!

anybody around here, who ( #inkjet ) prints their #digitalImages on fine art paper? or ( with #Gesso ) on aquarell paper - i prefer #Hahnemühle, #Fabriano or #Canson (no, i'm no sales agent ...)?

i mix the Gesso DIY (marble or steatite powder, acrylic binder and glue) the water for thinning the sometimes very tough mixture is pretty often from sacred springs or even holy water. (did i mention my #esotericism affection?)

Inkjet printers are a scam

If you need a printer, get a laser - a bog-standard one from a good brand like Brother. I paid 80 CAD for mine back in 2010 and it has never failed me. I bought toner exactly once.

Even linux was able to set it up automatically! A raspberry pi is sharing it on my network, but there are models with Ethernet and wifi. You can print from your phone if you want to!
