The medium I’ve been working with (ink pencils) needs a “setting” with brush & water between rounds of color and line. With water, the crumbly ink won’t smear or smudge (much) and the quality of light/radiance will change.
I look at the page anew, then apply the next layer.
But before I set the ink (transmute from solid to liquid-ish), I frequently step away for a moment—my brain, too has to shift from pencil to brush.
