I'm back (ish) on social media after some dedicated weeks away

I've been reading/listening to books related to self-compassion and forging strong intimate relationships via healthy attachment & identity

the & approaches resonate strongly with me, and I feel like I've made a lot of progress in how to interact with & understand my mind, thoughts, and emotions. Doing work as well

my creative work took a back seat, but I'm stronger now

❤️

I think many millennials are secretly unbloomed xenobiologists, xenopaleontologist or xenarcheologists. We grew up seeing all those promises of technological wonder and new discoveries, only to become grown ups worrying if tomorrow there will be breathable air, food, and a home. With this came an unhealthy hate towards managers and politics for ruining the world and our inner child dreams.

Here's the update on my experience of the session in the first inner child course.

We started by journaling everything we know about our first night at home. The time of year and even a guess at the weather, what age our parent/parents and any siblings were, what the house/apartment was like, and anything we might know like your parent's financial situation, relationship situation, were they working etc. We could also add some imaginative ideas like the colour of the room, the shape of the cot, this type of thing.

Next we had to write a letter to our newborn self. I found this one quite difficult because I wanted to say "don't be afraid the world is tough but youre tougher" but honestly I felt this tension because I didn't want to frighten the child. So I wrote about how much there is to see and learn and how amazing it's going to be.

Finally we had to write a letter as our newborn self to our current self. This is where it got interesting for me because I wrote it as a reply like "yea I am gonna learn a lot, but first - you gotta take care of me. You gotta feed and clothe me. You gotta wash me and change me. You gotta make sure I'm safe and warm and comfortable. And if you want me to explore and learn things - you gotta bring them to me! I can't even hold my head up yet!"

A few years ago (in lockdown) I started a course with a friend/mentor in inner-child healing. I found this course so so helpful, but I quit because of life getting in the way. This week I am starting it again, and I have to say...

I think autistic people can really benefit from inner-child work, especially those of us late diagnosed and with cptsd. Inner child work means visualizing yourself as a child and becoming the parent/guardian you always needed. So many of us had our sensory and emotional needs minimised and overlooked as children, or even worse. As I work in this area, I feel thay a lot of my more intrusive traits come from a lack of support in childhood - emotional disregulation and alexithymia, perfectionism, frustration at changed plans and break from routine, a feeling of a lack of identity and not understanding my own needs/wants/desires, and even some (but not all) of my need for self-soothing stimming.

Now I'm absolutely not saying that inner-child work is some miracle cure for autism. I love, embrace and cherish my autism, it is a part of who I am. But some of the traits that make my life difficult were really reduced when I managed to look at my own past and feel out some of the inadequacies in how I was raised.

I would love to know if anyone else has experience with healing and if you've found it helpful. Or if anyone has questions about this type of therapy and how it's helping me, I'd love to have the discussion!

💡💪 Don't underestimate your worth! You have inherent value, and it's time to recognize it. Tap into your inner child teachings and step out of your comfort zone to achieve your full potential.

For those of us who dealt with childhood trauma, our inner child was the way we survived. It protected us and shielded us from the abuse as best it could. But as we get older, these protective reactions become less useful. When we start a dialogue with our inner child we give it the space to tell us what it needs to, to thank it for everything I helped us survive, and a platform to explain why we don't need its help anymore.

Powerful Ways to Create Personal Traditions with Meaning

When I was a child, I wasn't allowed to dye easter eggs. We weren't a particularly religious family, and I was the only child/grandchild for a very long time so it wasn't like we had big holiday get togethers. We used the plastic egg wraps that shrunk down in hot wa

  • What is "Family Of Me"?

Family of Me is a serial fiction about a middle aged trans woman reparenting her own inner children. Those past versions of her did their best in their own time, but they didn’t realize they were closeted trans girls, which set them back in numerous invisible ways. By bringing them back, she seeks to introduce each of them to girlhood and reconcile with the perceived shortcomings of her past selves.

  • How can I read it?

I post new scenes as threads on this account every Monday and Friday, hashtagged with , , and . All posts also include "FamilyOfMe" (one word) in the text so they can be filtered out of your timeline if you so choose. I also post them to the Family Of Me website (familyofme.com/), where you can also read older scenes and check out the character page. Or follow @daphnestar@familyofme.com if you want to read scenes as single Fediverse posts.

  • Can you throw more hashtags into this post?

Strange request, but I guess so:

Still reading Gabor Mate. "Parenting is the dance of the generations." Whatever affected one generation will continue to be passed down to the next unless it is resolved.
So important to break that chain.

from land

Squatch the Spousal Unit is in the other room, and I think he might be talking to me, but nothing I can make out.

He comes around the corner, and, before I can ask, I realize he's singing 🎶 I got a pop tart, I found a pop tart, I didn't know I had🎶

And, yes, he was absolutely doing a little dancey dance. I will never get used to this.
