Despite my best efforts apparently the #horseflies got me again yesterday - twice! π«π€¬
I hate #summerβ¦ π

A horse fly bit me yesterday morning when I was watering the plants. I thought that, unlike last year, I hadn't had a bad reaction. I was wrong. My calf is so red and swollen it feels like my skin is going to split. π
Anyone have any good cures? #HorseFly #InsectBite #AllergicReaction

Iβve had a similar reaction from an insect bite while at a picnic.
This time I was doing gardening while wearing shorts on Friday and only noticed it getting painful/itchy on Saturday. Iβll go to the dermatologist tomorrow if itβs still not better.
Question: anyone know what insect might have done this?
Three native bees gorging on the pollen of a pig face flower (Carpobrotus Edulis) - spotted yesterday on Teewah beach! Not only are the fruits of this plant edible (albeit pretty salty!) The juice from its succulent leaves has a couple of interesting medicinal properties: it can help treat sunburn, minor cuts, insect bites, stings, and even jellyfish burns! Given its preferred habitat of sand dunes and beach areas, this knowledge might come in handy one day. It also has antibacterial properties and can be used to treat minor mouth infections or a sore throat when mixed with water and used as a gargle. Are you growing pigface in your garden yet?
