IIRC Synapse recommends 4 CPUs and 8G of RAM. I tried on a small VPS with 4 cores and 1G RAM and it was unusable (even for a single user, because joining fairly big rooms was taking forever/crashing).
On the other hand, #inspircd recommends a 750MHz CPU and 300M of RAM.
Is IRC that much more efficient than Matrix?
