I design online learning for a number of universities. We’ve had a couple of instances where instructors have used #AI to write the text of the course both times the results have been weird. One course was on ethics and the instructor didn’t tell anyone but the department head found out and he got pulled from the project.
In a Econ 101 course the instructor at least acknowledged he used AI but then didn’t fully proofread the results and we’ve had to fix a large number of errors. He’s also claiming copyright on the results which is an interesting issue. #instructionaldesign

It's also relevant to the Fediverse's ongoing tension between "instances are just nodes, the growth line must go up" and "the people on Fedi are in communities, first do no harm."

Does anyone else have huge, huge problems with the #InstructionalDesign of most online language learning courses?

I've tried both Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur. I bagged out of Rosetta Stone after literally three screens of content because the screens were completely free of text telling you what to do with the images.

The second (Pimsleur) was a little clearer but there was still a fork in the path whose way to completion was completely unclear.

Oh, dear, they might have had to PAY an instructional designer or tech writer to write screen text! Horrors!

I guess you're just supposed to jab randomly at the screen like Pavlov's dogs with no treats until you figure it out.

Glad I didn't pay a dime for either option.
