Speaking of #intarsia here's the most ambitious project I have ever (or will again) embark(ed) on.

In 2011, I decided to make a baby blanket for my 2nd youngest's then math teacher.... consisting of Tetris blocks, 'cause math! In multiple colors... all in S&C cotton for washability!

So Many Ends... So many... and I realized very early on that I needed to weave those in as I went along or I'd go mad otherwise!

It was all worth it, though, because at every school event afterwards, Z's teacher made a point of coming up to me and telling me how much she (and her baby) loved the blanket I had made! 😊​

Finished up the top mosasaur, and then wondered if it would look better in red tones instead of blue/grey tones. So, now I have two! It's a school of mosasaurs. A pod? What do you call a group of mosasaurs? A fluke?

All natural wood colors, no stains. Top: blue mahoe, buckeye burl, turquoise, blue gum. Bottom: bloodwood, chakta viga, yellowheart. Both with ebony & holly eyes, with birdseye maple throat.

Slightly risqué #knitting going on tonight - the bobbles in the bottom two petals of this #intarsia flower look a little suspect 😂

Pretty pleased with how this one turned out. Just need to decide where to hang it! Woods: bloodwood, yellowheart, osage orange, blue gum, wenge, iroke, maple, birch. No dyed - all natural wood colors. Recycled fur.

The evolution of a Paleo Pines inspired mosasaur intarsia piece:

Step one: pick the wood types / colors and cut out all the pieces! Here we have blue mahoe, buckeye burl, blue gum, birdseye maple, holly, and ebony.

Step two: glue all the pieces together!

Step three: sand the whole thing!

Step four: clean out the burl centers where the wood is soft and punky.

Step five: tape around the edges to keep epoxy from running all over my workstation, then mix up #ecopoxy epoxy and embed #turquoise within the holes.

Step six: wait. Ugh. The worst. Don't poke, don't make dust, just wait.
