I really enjoyed Zachary V. Wright's "Realizing Islam" and recommend it to anyone doing research on the early modern period (especially in North Africa) - not only on #Sufism, but on #intellectualhistory and #religion in general.

The long version:

In the Secular City Debate volume (1966), in addition to a response to the collected essays from others, Harvey Cox also offers a short essay: "Beyond Bonhoeffer - The Future of Religionless Christianity."

In it, Cox suggests Bonhoeffer foreshadowed and was enlivened by many of the issues animating/bedeviling American theologians in the radical 1960s. But what's interesting is that Cox is a bit embarrassed to suggest Bonhoeffer as an important source to continue to study and learn from (quote on next toot):

Reading Raewyn Connell's brilliant 1997 "Why is Classical Theory Classical" on the history of sociology, pointing out the disjuncture between the now-standard canon (Marx, Durkheim, Weber on modernity) and what sociology in the 19th and early 20th centuries thought it was doing (social evolution and metropole-colonies). I was born into the cotton mill working #IrishDiaspora in a town in the North of England and grew up in #NorthernIreland in the 1970s. Now live in #London.
