More than 650 refugees from Iraq, Syria and Turkey arrived in a small regional town in Australia. A series of surveys found residents became even positive towards them over time.

New study finds that participants who *freely* chose to engage in a negative intergroup imagery had lower positive emotions for the outgroup than those who were *asked* to engage in a negative visualization, even after controlling for their past contact experiences.
