In 1988, three years after the death of Exploratorium Founder Frank Oppenheimer, staff gathered at a retreat in Monterey, California, to soul search and brainstorm. It was there that Shaw linked March 14 (3.14) with the digits of pi (3.14159…), seeing it as an extraordinary opportunity to bring Exploratorium staff together. And Pi Day was born. This date came as an inspiration to proclaim it by UNESCO as the International Day of Mathematics (IDM), which the inaugural celebration of the IDM took place on year 2020. This year’s IDM theme is “Mathematics for Everyone” - as proposed, the notion that Mathematics is only for the gifted and the genius must change. It is an interesting and engaging subject, and everyone needs to get accustomed to it. So, let’s learn, enjoy, and celebrate math! https://www.idm314.org/ #PiDay #InternationalDayOfMathematics #MathematicsForEveryone
