fourthly, not all disabilities are visible!

I'm both invisibly and visibly disabled depending upon the day. depending upon the circumstances; did I see my chair or crutches or am I having a good day. depending upon whether or not I have to talk, or try to.

thirdly the issue of #IdentityFirstLanguage versus #PersonFirstLanguage, which is already hugely polarising in disability communities. for the record for self I always prefer identity-first language, but there are communities and groups who prefer person-first and it's better to listen than assume. #IDPWD #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

plus the whole issue about tokenism, and that sometimes awareness/celebration days have the opposite effect in the bigger picture. because there's a day for it, the rest of the time concerns and issues get minimised. #IDPWD #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs
