In May we held a US memorial service for my mother, who died earlier this year. Multiple speakers remembered Amerikannada, and specifically plaintively wished my parents could have used the tools available now, the tools that make indie publishing, in Kannada, so much more feasible without staggering work.

So here's a shout-out to toolmakers, especially the #localization and #internationalisation #i18n #l10n folks who provide that capability to my parents' intellectual heirs. Thank you.

Today I am learning about #localisation and #internationalisation with #Python. For somebody who's never dug into #gettext etc before, I'm finding there are *very* few tutorials that start from scratch of "OK, here's how to start internationalising your strings, and then generating templates to be localised".
I found this one, https://phrase.com/blog/posts/translate-python-gnu-gettext/, which has gotten me off the ground, but gosh it was hard to find.

@enkerli great! Most #FOSS has really good #internationalisation support - it's built into all the platforms people tend to use to build FOSS solutions. Similarly accessibility (we've put time into lifting our own game, with help from partners with that expertise, like Toronto Metropolitan Uni).
