DAY 29
A song you remember from your childhood
"Love Is Kind, Love Is Wine" by The Seekers
https://youtu.be/wtRdyjeDpDU
Track 1 from their album "Seen in Green", the only? trippy album cover in my folks' record collection. Sweet tune, brings back fond memories of how reliable my dad was at telling us Athol Guy knew Dad's family, whenever a Seekers song came on (the bassist, with the distinctive specs - came from the same small town as Dad) :birdheart:

DAY 28
A song by an artist whose voice you love
"I Love It" by Sneaky Sound System
https://youtu.be/zswxsa-I4zo
Connie Mitchell again, different band. Fabulous voice, must be close to my most favourite. Qualifies for JFN because my first trip away from Wellington with @lotographia was for the 2015 South Island Wine & Food Festival in Christchurch, due to Sneaky Sound System headlining it 😊

DAY 27
A song that breaks your heart
"Hurt" by Johnny Cash (Nine Inch Nails cover)
https://youtu.be/8AHCfZTRGiI
The video is really where the heartbreak happens. Beautiful though.

DAY 26
A song that makes you want to fall in love
"Islands" by the xx
https://youtu.be/PElhV8z7I60
Bit late again & this was a tricky one as I don't tend to find music especially romantic. But I feel like this would be a nice one to experience at a gig while cuddled up to the beloved 😊

DAY 25
A song you like by an artist no longer living
"Fashion" by David Bowie
https://youtu.be/F-z6u5hFgPk
This is probably my favourite Bowie track. That bass 😍 - so good for dancing. Always kinda disappointed when the DJ at Atomic plays Let's Dance or Modern Love instead of this.

DAY 24
A song by a band you wish were still together
"This Is The Sound" by Primary
https://youtu.be/w5p-9i4x9rM
Connie Mitchell moved on to Sneaky Sound System but Primary were more my jam. Saw them once, supporting Tadpole on a summer tour (my sis drove me to Whangamata for a Coroglen Tavern show). Got a photo with them after & remember one of them saying "hey, you knew all the words!" as I approached. One of my all-time top gigs 💜

DAY 23
A song you think everybody should listen to
"Experiment IV" by Kate Bush
https://youtu.be/NTUcoR8_pyE
Just because it's such a fabulous example of storytelling through song. The video is a treat too, it's a short film really - fun spotting several people who perhaps weren't quite as famous then as they became later. Just found out the one I used to think might be Midge Ure was actually someone else.

DAY 22
A song that moves you forward
"Helicopter" by Bloc Party
https://youtu.be/kkkA85hPtYw
I'd got front row tickets for me & a friend to their Silent Alarm show at the Michael Fowler Centre in 2018; only the front row was allowed to congregate in front of the stage, and we did indeed move forward to do exactly that. Such a perfect show. Brilliant to be on our feet for it and more physically engaged with the performance.

A song that has many meanings to you
"Atomic" by Blondie

One, two, many...
1) Fantastic song
2) Awesome new wave/synth pop DJ night https://www.nothingelseon.com/

DAY 19
A song that makes you think about life
"I Want To Live" by This Mortal Coil
https://youtu.be/rtpBhzSFUM4
Filigree & Shadow is one of my all-time fave albums; this is my top song from it. _Very_ different from most of the other 80s music in my collection. I got it in my last two or three years of high school, so it recalls my youth, the people who I shared it with and the emotions it soundtracked. One for the funeral playlist (or maybe not?!).

DAY 18
A song from the year you were born
"Love Is To Die" by Warpaint
https://youtu.be/OnuFYYJHaY0
Not comfortable with sharing my birth year, so this is from a "possible funeral songs" playlist. A friend gave me a mixtape (actually a CD) a few years ago; this was the standout & has been played many times since. Love the eeriness of the sound, and the equivocation in the sentiment reminds me of I Want to Live by This Mortal Coil which is an old fave.

DAY 17
A song you'd sing a duet with someone on karaoke
"This Corrosion" by The Sisters of Mercy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-RVJyNpfDk
I've never done karaoke, though I did try Singstar at a party once and wasn't very good at it. But I could probably chant "Sing", or "Gimme the ring" occasionally, and this song is so full of sound it might be ok. Also it's great for nostalgia, specially the video.

DAY 16
A song that's a classic favourite
"This Is The Day" by The The
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZYgKCbFbWY
Not really sure what "classic favourite" is meant to mean, but I'm going for a well known track that I've loved since I was a young'un. Soul Mining was one of my favourite records once upon a time, I'm still fond of it and this track is still way up there for me. I'm generally not very remembery but this is one of the few songs I know all the lyrics for.

DAY 15
A song you like that's a cover by another artist
Happy House by Shindu, from Belgium (Siouxsie and the Banshees cover released in 2011)
https://piped.video/watch?v=v-fNT96uH6M
A friend shared this on Facebook a few years back, I love it as much as the original, though it has quite a different feel.

DAY 14
A song you'd love to be played at your wedding
"The Lovecats" by The Cure
https://youtu.be/4OLYoq7j14w
Tricky to find a track to fit both themes! At the hypothetical after-party of this imaginary wedding, I can feel the delight as the song builds to some kind of crescendo and comes to a final sudden stop at the end - love to try & stop dancing at just the right moment 🕺

DAY 13
A song you like from the 70s
"Are 'Friends' Electric?" by Tubeway Army
https://piped.video/watch?v=fyKWArpq-Fk
From Solid Gold Hits vol. 25, possibly the first tape my family owned. Not my folks' kind of music at all, they must've got it for me & my sister. Pretty decent selection, if a bit too dude-heavy. I feel like this one is the least aged? Still love it (especially when it brings my partner dancing into the room).

DAY 12
A song from your preteen years
Planet Earth by Duran Duran
https://piped.video/watch?v=8NF6Qa84mno
One of my schoolfriends was a little obsessed with these guys, I don't really know how much her taste influenced mine but I'm still pretty fond of some of their early work.

@T @irix maybe listen to something better that's just as earwormy then! (I find my latest #InternationalMusicEdition track is quite good for that, though ymmv.)

DAY 11
A song you never get tired of
"Priestess" by Pumarosa
https://piped.video/watch?v=PLwJbfT05KM
I love the way it builds & builds. The dancer in the video is the singer's sister - I like that, as the lyrics make me think of my sister.
