Of course I respect people's right to call themselves whatever they want, and discuss their conditions in whatever way they feel best reflects their own experiences but here's where I stand:
I'm intersex. My body isn't 'malformed' or 'dysfunctional'. My body is mine and there's nothing inherently 'wrong' with it. I'm sterile, and my body looks different to what people might expect of a man (or a woman) but I reject any language that pathologises my body or my condition.
I know some intersex people use the phrase 'DSD' and insist its modern meaning is "differences of sexual development" rather than "disorders of sexual development" but you only need to look in the comments of any queerphobe talking about intersex people to see that the public VERY MUCH still views intersex variations as 'disorders'... and worse tbh, they think we're broken and damaged.
That's why I personally just *can't* use the term for myself.
