After my graduation I worked at the University of Trier and specialized in Historical GIS. Currently I am working in the field of digital (spatial) humanities at the Hessische Institut für Landesgeschichte in Marburg, using Open Source Technologies (Python, QGIS, Gdal, GRASS, OpenLayers, Angular et. al.)

I've been into FOSS for a long time and I'm lucky enough to make a living as a Linux sysadmin at an open-source only association.

I was actually torn apart joining a tech- or a music focused instance. But they seem pretty dedicated about it and after all it's federated anyways...

I’m Stu. I work for Yamaha and sell all of their woodwind, brass, strings , and orchestral percussion into the UK market; I’m always away from home. I’d quit tomorrow to be a gardener. Im married to the wonderful John and have been together for 21 years.
I play sax, flute and clarinet well and I’ve had singing, piano and guitar lessons, and did composition for my masters. LOVE STAR WARS. Daddy is fine 😈 Black County boy with a Yammy accent. Need to find a big band!!!

So time to give this all a little more focus! By way of a #introdcution you will often find me tooting about food, drinks, comics, and a love of Birmingham matched only by a hatred of mayonnaise. My name is Rachel Travis- I'm an illustrator for motion and together with my animator husband @robtravis we run an animation studio called Vivinel.

I love creating quirky illustrations and doing cell animation in #procreate.

So why this #introdcution ?

Well, if you go to a #jobinterview and don't have much experience to brag about.

Take your "private" project and describe what and why you did. (As I did with this introduction)

It helps us (the #interviewers) with:
- understanding how you communicate problems / solutions (#communication , #CommunicationSkills)
- understanding how do you deal with challenges while #solvingproblems
- understand or at least narrow down the level of your #technological #expertise
- just to name few aspects...

Of course it all depends on the kind of job you are applying for.

The interview from my first post was something in between:

It is very common mistake, that for #cybersec jobs you have to have like 100 0days on your CV, submitting like 1000 CVEs on average in a year and be top 1% on hackerone.

This might be true if you are working alone or certain kinds of three letter agencies but in the average company it is not the case.

You can not and you will not know everything by yourself! You will have to depend on your #team therefore #teamwork and the ability to describe, communicate and solve problems also the ability to deal with unknowns are most important.

Sharing my #introdcution

I'm a math/programming nerd by day, but my interests are pretty varied. I enjoy gaming both board and video, but I don't identify as a "gamer". Lately I've been getting big into gardening for growing food, but I'm not very good at it.

I periodically go back and forth between living online and offline, so I'll ghost my online friends for weeks before showing up again.

I don't know how personal introductions usually are, but I'll leave it there. Looking forward to seeing you on Mastodon!
