I teach an #introductory course to #dinosaurs in #EnvironmentalScience at #UMassBoston each spring.

I would be thrilled to host virtual or corporeal #guest #lecturers on subjects including #fossil preparation, reconstruction, dinosaurs in culture, #curation of fossils, et cetera. ½ hr to 50 minutes?

UMB is the only public research university in #Boston. We are diverse with ca. 40% first generation college students and 70% of undergraduate students being people of color.

“The following resource is intended to be a guide for those who wish to carry out concerted political action and includes tactics for both militant and pacifistic direct action, organizing, creating assemblies, and even some introductory aspects of being a street medic. The goal of this guide is to compile the knowledge from the various insurrections across the planet and turn them into a single resource which can be given to anyone and to inform that person on their place in the broader schema.

For this reason, we will include both peaceful and non-peaceful tactics within this guide. If we are to learn from the successful movements of the past, we can see that all successful pressure has been the collusion of the peaceful and non-peaceful aspects of the movement, such that the peaceful party can lobby the state to concede, saying to them “now see? Wouldn’t you rather deal with me than them? Sit down and make some concessions to those suffering people.”

Meanwhile, the non-peaceful protesters escalate the aggression of their actions such as to put a clock on the state. Direct action should therefore not be seen as a chaotic by-product to be avoided. It should instead be seen as a necessity to extract outcomes for the movement. Ultimately, if the demands of the protests are not met, revolution should be the threat. In this way, we are to transform the state to our whims, not vice versa. And if it does not concede, we will have built the bodies of prefiguration that will be prepared to replace it..”

Since it came up some earlier, here is an #introductory post to my other musical life for folks.

I play trumpet and piano, mostly the former and mostly #jazz these days. My main activity for the last several years is called The Hard Modes, a group that does original jazz arrangements of #videogamemusic. We’re mainly active on Instagram, Spotify, and YouTube. The YouTube channel is probably a good way in - https://www.youtube.com/thehardmodes. I play horns and do some of the arranging for that group. If you like jazz, you’ll hopefully dig the contemporary influence on the arranging. If you like video games, you’ll recognize a lot of the tunes.

I post about #music mostly on Instagram under the name @hshtgbrandon (walshbr was taken). A lot of piano videos because those are easier to pull together on my phone. But I’ll throw up trumpet as well when I get my act together. I’ll try to share more on here though because folks seem to be interested!

Work as a Project Manager in the HE sector, knocking down, building new and refurbishing existing buildings.

I'm also a Local Councillor, and have recently launched a #SchoolStreet and a #LowTrafficNeighbourhood in our Ward. And we've exciting plans to retrofit some social housing.

So I've decided to use this site to post and ask questions about the intersect of all of these roles.
