In a legal first, a #Quebec Court judge has awarded cash compensation of $25,000 to a 19-year-old #Inuk woman who was forgotten by the youth protection ( #DPJ ) officials responsible for her care for nearly 15 years.
Judge Peggy Warolin acknowledged there's no legal precedent 4 her decision.
"..court concludes that this financial compensation, although imperfect, is the only possible option 2 correct injury situation experienced by this teenager 4 so many years"

Today in 2013, Kenojuak Ashevak died. Born in 1927, she was a leading figure in modern Inuit art. Her work has been featured on the Canadian $10 bill.
She is the 1st Inuit artist inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame & a Heritage Minute was created about her.
