I spend far more time than a normal person thinking about humans and demons being together. We can headcanon that demons live much longer than humans (something Sunrise certainly plays with and RT may not have thought through quite enough...). If we want a human and a demon to be together, their difference in life spans can be depressing.

There are a lot of ways FF authors play with this, from the "demon finds reincarnated human over and over to keep falling in love..." to "demon is sad" to "demon gives up life span and becomes human" to "the demon mates the human and marks them so they are now bonded and share a lifeline" (as an aside, this one is also used often in the ABO community).

My favorite of these involves SCIENCE! (Kind of. More like 'fantasy science' soooo... "science"). In Inuyasha, we know that a demon's yōki heals their bodies much faster than a human body.

Yōki sharing. What if yōki heals down the DNA LEVEL (go look up telomeres...)? That's why demons don't seem to age. Because their yōki heals all. A demon can share their yōki with their human, and suddenly the human is also getting healed down to the DNA. It would mean a human and demon must rekindle their love every once in a while, which leaves lots of time for love and for angst too if you need it.

Truth be told, I like looking at ALL the ways to play with a human/demon in love, and think all the ways we approach it have so much potential. But yōki sharing just happens to be my favorite.
