On January 26, I had the opportunity to speak with Mayor of Moonee Valley Council Pierce Tyson, Cr. Rose Iser and Moonee Valley City Council CEO Helen Sui, about Indigenous healing and how we can be more sensitive to our First Nations people on January 26.
We also discussed a local project I have been wanting and proposing for several years and Mayor Tyson was gracious enough to invite me to send him my proposal, in the hope that he may be able to advocate for it on my behalf (watch this space). Both Cr. Iser and Ms. Sui were encouraged by my enthusiasm to create local change for indigenous peoples, and were incredibly supportive and enthusiastic.
I also had an opportunity to speak with Niddrie Greens candidate Declan McGinness, where we discussed how collaboration not politics, will see the most positive changes for our communities come to fruition.
I thank all of these wonderful people for their warm hospitality and genuine care in what I had to say.

I write to you from Wurundjeri Country in Naarm. I stand with our First Nations People. I support an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. I support changing the date of Australia Day. I acknowledge this land was stolen and it's sovereignty never ceded.
Will you join me in being a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people?

To show true compassion and respect to Australia's First Nations peoples, Australia Day should be done away with entirely, writes #MeganKrakouer.

Learnt that many <40year old Aussies already don't do #AustraliaDay due to it being #InvasionDay.
So no Australia Day parties for them. And an Invasion Day party would be yucky.
Instead they're tuning into triple j and have Top 100 parties.
(triple j is so cool that they don't do capitals.)

Such a good long weekend for the Australia Day public holiday, going camping near Lake Eildon with friends. It's rare to have a campsite within a national park allow dogs, so we were grateful that Charlie could come with us and get in touch with nature.
Spending 35deg+ days near a refreshing creek is something I can definitely get used to.

Lidia Thorpe screamed at her #InvasionDay protest & said, 'This is war!"
If there was an invasion in 1788 then shouldn't the war be over by now?

Have you seen r/Australia today? Every article discussing #InvasionDay has been downvoted and repeatedly snarked at. Really brought my mood down. Australia has such a long way to go in so many ways.

Well done Dave. Nailed it.
"The 26th of January also marks the day these shores were most successfully invaded – a baffling choice in itself for a national holiday even before you consider First Nations peoples. It’s akin to the Germans calling D-Day “Germany Day”. "

I understand that #Voice doesn't go far enough but I see a No vote as giving power, voice and support to the Dutton crew and racists that they REALLY should never have. Look at the air-time this is already getting via racist Murdoch media!
I see a Yes vote as opening the door to more and rapidly moving progress. Its not about "crumbs at a white table".
Once it's in place First Nations have a vehicle to massive change. Without a Yes vote, Duttonites win, again. Imagine his smug grin... Think how much he loves seeing blak communities split and arguing with one another.

An amazing & deeply moving #InvasionDay spent exploring country with Wayne Atkinson, elder of the Yorta Yorta people and aboriginal activist. Such beautiful landscapes with tragic histories, intimately connected with Wayne’s own ancestors and the ongoing struggle for #indigenous land rights. An absolute privilege to spend the day hearing his stories and perspectives — and the many connections with Irish history.

On this day 1988 - Burnum Burnum plants the Aboriginal flag at the cliffs of Dover, claiming England for the Aboriginal peoples of Australia, exactly 200 years after Arthur Phillip claimed Australia for the British.
