A SEPARATION (2011): Powerful, gripping Iranian drama of a family crisis unfolding in the midst of another family crisis, a divorce. Its universal praise upon release- and Oscar- well earned. Most impressive was how Farhadi was able to leave so many characters in the gray zone and yet maintain your sympathy for them all around. On #CriterionChannel. #iranianfilm

I finally had the chance to watch the film CLOSE-UP (Abbas Kiarostami, 1990).
I remember having my mind blown when I found out David Simon cast a corrupt city councilman, fresh out of prison, to play himself and dramatize his corruption in TREMÉ. Well, imagine a movie where the entire cast is playing themselves like that.
