Sentries at the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) headquarters in Manipur's Bishnupur fired 327 rounds of ammunition and burst 20 tear gas shells on Thursday in a bid to keep at bay a 500-strong mob that seemingly brooked no stopping as it targeted the armoury, looting 298 rifles, SLRs and LMGs along with mortars, grenades, and 16,000-odd rounds of assorted ammunition.

What the hell is the point of getting central #IRB approval for a non-interventional, de-identified #clinicalresearch registry if every site insists on getting local approval anyway?

Not that it’s not a joy to work with IRBs at 15 institutions who are all asking variations of the exact same questions, mind you.

This nonsense repeatedly pushes out the date by which this registry can be used to help people with aggressive #blood #cancer, and these folks don't have a lot of time to spare. 🤬

Given the expectation that it will be almost impossible to land an #R1 #tenure track position after finishing my #PhD, I find it even more disheartening that non-#university-affiliated #IRBs charge a minimum of $500 to review your independently done #research. That's so prohibitive for individuals who have expertise but no #academic post, and charging feels unethical to begin with.

My school moved #IRB work to e-protocol. Yesterday I learned a study since 2019, to be completed in a few months (but the paperwork says December) must nevertheless go into the online system. I thought it would be grandmothered in. Anyway I unexpectedly spent several hours working my way through it. I await my colleagues' #CITI certificates & an answer to how to get their names attached, as the online platform did not allow me to include names outside my school. #venting

Does anyone know how to record `irb` using `termtosvg`? `irb`'s usage of ANSI cursor control sequences really messages with `termtosvg`, even if I disable the fancy new auto-completion drop-down menu stuff.

Was experiencing minor annoyance with an #IRB this week, and kept thinking how odd it is that they can make demands without providing any justifications.

In every #ethics class I ever taught, the central lesson for the first week was about the importance of offering justifications to accompany evaluations, demands, prescriptions, etc.

Coincidentally, I just ran across a new paper arguing that IRB demands need to meet a public justifiability condition!

Bummer, termtosvg is _not_ capable of recording irb/reline's terminal control characters and auto-suggestion list. The resulting text is all jumbled and overlapping.

Inspired by the latest improvements to #IRB, I have released Irbtools 4.0. It is the first version to include custom commands, so some of Irbtoools' methods now support "ri" syntax:

This will directly show the reverse method's source code in the REPL.

Also new: Using dollar-space as a prefix allows you to call the system shell from your IRB session! So this just works:
