@DismalManorGang Works for me. I went through the stage that Keith Jarrett is now in: acoustic only. Catch up Keith!! I’ve gone from #Nordheim to #IRCAM. There are players like Lee Konitz and Charlie Haden. It’d be criminal for them to go electronic. Their sounds are transcendent. But even Lee Konitz used a Varitone pickup on a Selmer Mk.6. A short lever experiment. I enjoy Denny Zeitlin.

Oddly for someone who #reads and #writes nigh on incessantly I can’t seem to bear the absence of music. I don’t listen to music when I #mountainbike or #hillwalk, though I appreciate my walking partner’s chat. Without-music isn’t necessarily a silent state. I’d hoped electronic works (from #Arneheim to #Ircam) might help. Now they’ve become ends in themselves! And this is really what it all comes down to. Reading and writing (though perhaps not equivalent) are (very often) ends in themselves.

I used to be such an ‘#acoustic’ over ‘#electronic’ snob, especially in #jazz. Trying to pin down how that changed. Two possible sources, the lingering influence of early #Genesis’ #TonyBanks. But also #JohnSurman. Latterly #Ircam. I started off on saxes. But changed to piano. Saxophone was very difficult to sustain in the army, constant operational tours. Gave up amateur music but inherited a #Technics synth. Appalling key action. But had so much possibility.
