@ekes It's now on the governments of member states of the #EU to make sure #IRIS2 is going to make #Europe autonomous and no longer subjected to the whims of foreign psychos. The Commission did its job, but it's our governments that control the EU and, most importantly, its (tiny) budget they're constantly trying to cut.

If anything, this story should be used by France in the EU in a We Need Strategic Autonomy Because... campaign to knock heads together.

This shocking #photography was obtained from #Montana (#USA) over 17 minutes. It reveals the crazy number of #satellites orbiting the #Earth. Most of them are #StarLink (from #SpaceX / #Musk) and aim at providing internet to some remote places.

StarLink is not the only project for space-based #internet: there are also #Kuiper (#Amazon), #oneWeb, #Iris2 (@EU_Commission), etc... which will send even more satellites into #space

The #EU assembles a consortium for its €6bn #IRIS2 satellite communications and internet system. #ElonMusk's #Starlink will no longer be the only player, especially when the #Ariane6 launcher becomes available. I just hope it doesn't worsen the #SpaceDebris situation, or make ground-based #astronomy impossible.

Unterhändler des EU-Parlaments und der Mitgliedstaaten einigten sich auf den Aufbau einer sogenannten #Satelliten|konstellation namens #Iris2 (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnection and Security by Satellites). Dafür sollen in den kommenden Jahren 2,4 Milliarden Euro aus dem EU-Haushalt kommen, wie aus einer Mitteilung hervorgeht.
