An #IrishRail Commuter train leaving #Maynooth along the banks of a Lilly-pad-speckled #RoyalCanal in the rain. In Cavan where I grew up we referred this kind of warm drizzly ‘summer’ day as ‘a grand soft day’ — good for the grass!

I love how many boats we’re starting to see on the #RoyalCanal these days — the Duke’s Harbour at the entrance to #CartonHouse really looks alive as an #IrishRail commuter train trundles past as it slows for the approach control signal for #Maynooth.

The tide is finally changing for Irish railways.
But nothing will happen without everyone discussing it with friends and family (plus contacting TDs and Councillors).
There are some common-sense improvements that need to be made:
•Electrification of the entire rail network, improving journey times, emissions, and frequency)
•Reopening of the Western Railway Corridor and other rural lines.
•Construction of a Cork-Dublin-Belfast high speed rail line.

Sort of sad to see the gangway doors being removed from the #IrishRail 2600s. Added a bit of variety to fairly uniform fleet. Do I have time for a day trip to Cork before they are all gone!
