yet again another successful session of tunes.
I'll be back at T.C. O'Leary's tonight, 8-10pm. with my musical life partner Preston Wilde, and also Erik Killops

Alright, #IrishTrad compadres, I need some help: I’m looking for recommendations—besides Matt Molloy and Kevin Crawford—for Irish flute players
I’m starting to teach myself and I need to develop a sense for phrasing and ornamentation, so I need to do a lot of listening. Bands with good players are good, but solo albums with little or no backing is better (less work for me)
Also, if any of you flute players out there can recommend learning resources (books, YouTube vids, etc.) I’d be grateful
Started fiddling around my 42nd birthday.
No previous musical experience, very little music listening even.
Spontaneously decided to learn to play Irish Trad, picked the fiddle as the instrument.
It’s been a tough three years, it’s a hard instrument. Was close to tone deaf.
Yesterday I learned a full tune by ear in one day.
Tomorrrow I turn 45.
I’m proud of my progress, even if I still have a lifetime to go.
I really think we need an #IrishTrad cover of The Sisters of Mercy's 'First and Last and Always'. Come on, #Mastodaoine.

So very excited because my friends, Jon Sousa (guitar, banjo) and Jessie Burns (fiddle), are—I think—playing together tomorrow at Spruce Confections in north #Boulder. (9–11am, I believe.)
I think it's been close to 15 years since the last time I saw them play as a duo (they were the two who set me on the path of playing #IrishTrad).
Matt Molloy and Dónal Lunny both masters of #irishtrad with James Galway of #classical fame in Studio One, 1977. The players compare and contrast their different traditions. Galway, who was brought up in a working class family is clearly loving Molloy's playing around 14+ and in his talk which follows he mentions how classical music is so strict that he can't be as free as Molloy saying of classical music: "I mean, don't let anybody enjoy it for God's sake!"
We've updated the software on our site to deal with problem that some Firefox users had when looking at musical notation on the tunes pages.
There SHOULD be no unpleasant side affects but please let us know if you have any issues using our pages.
Does anybody else always mix up the beginning of "The Boys of Bluehill" and "Concertina" reels? No? Just me? *sigh*

I asked Google's Bard AI "What reel to play after The Boy in the Gap". It suggested Morrisons Jig, The Boys of Bluehill (a hornpipe) and finally a reel: the Hare's Paw saying they were all popular and well known and would get everyone dancing, except only one of the suggestions was what I asked for and anyone who was trying to dance the reel while I played a jig and a hornpipe would most certainly *stop* dancing and throw a shoe at me.
