I take #uilleannPipes lessons via Zoom. Sure, in-person would be better, but I get to record the whole thing, rewatch it, and extract insights. I can be really present instead of taking notes. I estimate that I get 40% more out of my lessons thanks to Zoom.

I love taking lessons. Being in the presence of a great musician and witnessing how great music is made is exhilarating and humbling at the same time. I am so energized after a lesson!

I think a lot about music. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about melodies because since July 2020 I’ve been learning to play and listen to better understand Irish Traditional Music.
Much more so than the popular music and rock and blues I grew up learning on the guitar, ITM is melody focussed. There are thousands of these tunes and many unique melodies, but also elements, common phrases ,and constructions that one starts to see repeated.
