@elb My first PC-compatible was an XT Turbo, but my second PC was a 386SX motherboard that my employer let me have. I had to dig through a bin of RAM chips and populate the motherboard. I think the board I had would only accommodate 1MB of RAM total. It got a used PC case, a power supply, graphics card and a meaty 40MB hard drive and built myself a system!

It was a great little computer and I ran my BBS on it for many years.

Intel #AVX10 is a new #ISA that includes "all the richness" of #AVX512 and additional features/capabilities while being able to work for both P/E cores. Intel says AVX10 will be "the vector ISA of choice" moving forward.Very exciting from hardware perspective with Intel's #opensource track record around new ISA support it means we'll likely start seeing software enablement preparations begin soon so that everything is upstream and ready by time supported processors ship.

There's a reason #Transmeta literally did design their chips to emulate #amd64 & #ix86 with an architecture that isn't an #ISA a OS can even directly utilize.

That being said, I'm confident that #ARM / #ARM64 will be a stepping stone till #RISCV is mature enough to become mainstream (i.e. 20 Years) and cheap $10 #FPGAs allow running one at a performance that is on-par to then current #AppleSilicon SoCs and faster than any current-day #AMD64 can be.
