@kaffiene of course the #ISDS terms in the #CPTPPA are only part of it - as you point out gov't procurement was horribly biased in favour of #BitTech prior to that, too. That's because bureaucrats want to be seen to be in charge of the biggest budgets/procurements ($ amount) possible as it sets them up for advancement. I've no doubt people create RFPs with conditions effectively ruling out viable local options, because the 'big name' & big $ looks better on their CV.

@sidawson @heyrochelle and if you're not familiar with #ISDS (Investor State Dispute Settlements) they're are a core part of the #TPPA/#CPTPPA allowing multinational corporations to sue sovereign gov'ts in *secret, extra-jurisdictional* courts, with all proceedings keep secret on pain of forfeit, where the judge & lawyers are all on corporate retainers. The system is entirely rigged against democracies.

@thomasbeagle rather than legislate social interaction and speech (not much historical success in that), perhaps the thing to do is what gov'ts don't want to do: focus on the corporations creating the problem with their calculated profit-motivated behaviour. Did the 'Chch Call' have no teeth? Why not push for a pan gov't accord banning corporate 'engagement algorithms'? (it would, of course, lead to secret #ISDS lawsuits under the #CPTPPA, but whatever). @davemosk @stephen @strypey

My latest for @NWBylines looks at Investor State Dispute Settlement (which is part of the Comprehensive & Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) that the UK has just joined... #ISDS is not an uncommon element of #internationaltrade agreements (despite the EU cooling on them recently).

I conclude that ISDS 'is a window on how states have either facilitated, or been forced to facilitate, an expansion of the rights of #corporations'.
