The #IslamicCalendar is a lunar calendar: 1 month = 1 cycle of the moon; 1 year = 12 lunar months. This is about 10-11 days less than a solar year. Muslim holidays fall on consistent days in this calendar (e.g. Eid-al-Fitr (=holiday of breaking the fast) is always on 1 Shawwa). Drawback: days are not tied to the position of the sun in the sky, or to seasons.
