The international panel at #ISOJ was very moving. I admire the commitment the speakers expressed to producing news in Ukraine, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and other countries. #journalism

I agree with Joe Kahn that journalists are spending too much time on Twitter. Our audiences we want to reach are not necessarily the same people who are active in the discussion there. #ISOJ
Context for the morning! I’m hanging out at #ISOJ (International Symposium for Online Journalism) at UT Austin today, as Knight Foundation’s resident Austin guy.
Back in 07, when I was new to Twitter, I knew it was gaining traction when I complained via a tweet of a migraine at #ISOJ. Within minutes, the Uber-connected journos in the audience were handing me Advil & water.
By 2011, the US State Dept was sending me to developing countries, where I taught legacy media, activists, human rights orgs, etc, how to use social media to get their stories to the world.
We were so hopeful then. Optimistic.
Sure that social media was a force for good.
