"... Judging by noise and applause, the most well-received were Otzma Yehudit’s Itamar Ben Gvir, Likud’s David Amsalem and Tally Gotliv, and Religious Zionism’s Orit Strock. Justice Minister Yariv Levin, the plan’s chief architect, was also met with great enthusiasm, up until the moment he said it was possible “to come to an agreed-upon change” — to which the crowd chanted again “no to compromise” and “Bibi, don’t give in.”"

Whenever I see such vociferous support for the 's legislation, I think that if this is passed, and a more center-left government returns to power, these same politicians and protestors will be protesting pretty vehemently against the government having this power.

“I believe that a strong, independent court allows for the existence of all other institutions in a democracy,” Netanyahu said in his speech.
“I ask that you show me one dictatorship, one undemocratic society, where a strong independent court system exists. There’s no such thing,” Netanyahu said.
“In places with no strong and independent court system, rights cannot be protected,” he said.

At least this is what said just over 10 years ago in this speech at a ceremony for a handover from an outgoing President of the Supreme Court to their successor.
