I enjoyed several things in this article:
"This year, “goblin mode” was up against...runners-up “metaverse” and the hashtag “#IStandWith.” In the end, “goblin mode” ran away with 93 percent of the more than 340,000 votes.
Merriam-Webster crowned “gaslighting” — “The act or practice of grossly misleading someone especially for one’s own advantage” — as its word of the year."

@sierrakim the OUP held a public poll this year to choose the OED's word of the year. Choices were "metaverse", "#IStandWith" and "goblin mode"... none of which really seem to be words of the year to me. "Goblin Mode" in particular had passed me by completely until all the pieces in the papers explaining what it meant --- feels a lot more like "someone really wants this phrase to happen" rather than genuine usage.
It's incredibly sad to watch people's self-worth be demolished by internet hate campaigns on social media. #istandwith #johnmastodon
@Floppy It came second, apparently, followed by another multi-word "word" #IStandWith. Yes, with the hash.

The results of the Oxford Languages Word of the Year are in: 1) goblin mode (still a bit of a mystery to me), 2) metaverse, 3) #IStandWith.

@mattjhodgkinson I think that's because we all the concepts represented by the other candidates (the marketing gambit “Metaverse” and the earnest but ultimately vacant "#IStandWith").
"Goblin mode" beat out "metaverse" and "#IStandWith" in a landslide.
