“The cost of upgrading the #dikes that protect the low-lying #IsthmusOfChignecto and prevent Nova Scotia from becoming a defacto island: $300 million. The bill for #Richmond—the fourth-largest city in metropolitan #Vancouver, which includes the #VancouverInternationalAirport—to raise its own dikes against rising seas: $1 billion.”

The Isthmus of Chignecto is a flat 24km-wide piece of land that joins Nova Scotia to the rest of Canada. The geography is why it was a good location for a fort. Fort Beauséjour is on the high part, with an amazing, expansive view of the surrounding water and land. This tree lets folk know of the prevailing winds from the end of the Bay of Fundy, to the right, across to the Northumberland Strait. This how the tree now stands, wind or not. :)
